IT minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and STC explore a Pakistan Saudi Digital Corridor with submarine cables, fintech remittances and cloud cybersecurity collaboration.

Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja met with representatives of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation in technology and digital infrastructure. The talks focused on concrete areas where Pakistan and Saudi Arabia can build stronger links and unlock mutual economic benefits.

Delegates explored collaboration on submarine cables and regional connectivity to expand bandwidth and resilience across the Arabian Sea and neighboring routes. Discussions also addressed fintech initiatives aimed at lowering costs of cross-border transfers, a priority given more than $9 billion in annual remittances between the two countries. Strengthening digital payment rails and reducing remittance fees were highlighted as immediate opportunities.

Cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity innovation formed the third pillar of talks, with both sides emphasising the need for secure platforms to support emerging services. A shared vision for 5G, artificial intelligence and digital payments underpinned the conversation, signalling a coordinated approach to future technologies that can benefit Pakistani businesses, consumers and the diaspora.

The proposed partnership is being framed as a step toward a future-ready Digital Corridor linking Pakistan and the Kingdom. Officials said continued engagement with STC will focus on translating these priorities into practical projects that enhance connectivity, protect digital assets and make cross-border transactions more affordable.
