Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Polio Eradication

Federal Health Minister meets Saudi counterpart to advance polio eradication and coordinate 2025 campaigns reaching children in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In Riyadh, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal held talks with the Saudi Minister of Health to discuss ways to deepen health sector cooperation and jointly tackle infectious disease challenges, the Ministry of Health spokesperson said.

The meeting focused extensively on polio eradication efforts in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, with detailed discussion on planning and coordination for upcoming campaigns. Officials reviewed the design and timing of the next national drive and exchanged technical approaches to ensure broad vaccine access.

Syed Mustafa Kamal reiterated that polio eradication remains a top priority for the Government of Pakistan and emphasized that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, efforts are being implemented with full determination. He highlighted that four national polio campaigns have been successfully conducted during 2025, ensuring vaccine access for 45 million children and contributing to a notable decline in polio cases, while cautioning that the mission is not yet complete.

The Saudi delegation praised Pakistan’s intensified polio measures and assured continued support for cooperative action. Both sides underlined the historical and fraternal ties between the countries as a strong foundation for sustained collaboration on child health and immunization initiatives.

Ministers agreed to regular coordination on campaign quality, surveillance and cross-border strategies to maintain momentum toward polio eradication in the region, with both governments committing to keep working closely on upcoming vaccination activities.
