Pakistan Seychelles Parliamentary Group Holds First Briefing

Pakistan Seychelles parliamentary group met in Islamabad to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and map economic cooperation in fisheries, blue economy and exchanges.

The Pakistan–Seychelles Parliamentary Friendship Group convened its inaugural briefing on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Committee Room No. 7, Parliament House, Islamabad to familiarise Members with the current state of Pakistan Seychelles relations and to initiate structured parliamentary engagement with the Republic of Seychelles.

Ms. Kiran Imran Dar, MNA and Convener of the Pakistan–Seychelles Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired the meeting and welcomed participants while acknowledging the foresight of the Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly in supporting parliamentary diplomacy and outreach to friendly countries. She underlined the importance of establishing sustained linkages with Seychelles at an early stage to deepen bilateral engagement.

Parliamentarians present included Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Makhdoom Tahir Rashid ud Din, Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Abdul Aleem Khan, Kiran Haider, Naveed Aamir Jeeva, Shaista Khan, Akhtar Bibi and Neelam, who exchanged views on ways to translate parliamentary engagement into tangible cooperation.

The Convener proposed that the Mission of Pakistan in Mauritius, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, convey to the Seychelles National Assembly the suggestion to form a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group and recommended arranging an interaction with the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Karachi to strengthen outreach and coordination.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Mauritius, accredited to Seychelles, joined virtually and provided a comprehensive briefing on Seychelles’ political and economic landscape. Members sought clarifications on trade potential and investment opportunities and highlighted promising sectors including fisheries development, blue economy initiatives, value-added food products, rice, textiles and canned goods.

Participants also urged exploration of cooperation in youth development programmes, educational exchanges, vocational training and scholarship opportunities to promote people-to-people contacts and build institutional linkages that support long-term engagement between Pakistan and Seychelles.

The session concluded with consensus on progressively strengthening Pakistan Seychelles ties through sustained parliamentary engagement, targeted economic cooperation and continued coordination with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance mutual interests.
