Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Vijitha Herath, at the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur. Both leaders discussed the extensive and strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, exploring cooperation across a variety of sectors and exchanging views on significant regional and international developments.
During the meeting, the two ministers expressed satisfaction over the current robust nature of Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations, emphasizing mutual trust and understanding that underpin these cordial ties. Recognizing the significance of frequent high-level dialogues, the ministers appreciated continuing interactions at senior governmental levels, affirming their importance in advancing bilateral cooperation.
Economic collaboration featured prominently in the discussions, with both officials underscoring the importance of further strengthening trade and investment links. They expressed mutual interest in exploring new avenues and initiatives to deepen economic integration and partnership between their countries.
The ministers also highlighted the role of tourism, particularly religious tourism, as an effective instrument in widening people-to-people connections. In addition, they discussed opportunities to expand educational collaboration, exchanging insights on scholarship programs, academic exchanges, and joint educational initiatives that could benefit students and academic institutions.
Furthermore, Senator Ishaq Dar and Minister Herath exchanged views on a broad range of regional and global issues, particularly emphasizing the recent developments affecting peace and stability within the region.
