Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal met a high-level Sudanese delegation led by the Federal Secretary of Health of Sudan to discuss expanded cooperation across the health sector. The meeting in Islamabad was also attended by Pakistan’s Federal Secretary Health Hamid Yaqoob and senior officials from the Ministry of National Health Services, who reviewed priorities and next steps.
The Sudanese delegation outlined a comprehensive five-year strategic framework covering roughly 45 health projects and described urgent needs including rehabilitation and reconstruction of health facilities, provision of medical equipment and technologies, and restoration of solar energy solutions to power clinics and hospitals. The delegation also sought strengthened institutional collaboration and technical support from Pakistan.
In response, the Federal Minister reiterated that Pakistan places high importance on brotherly ties with Sudan and confirmed Pakistan’s readiness to support capacity building under the Pakistan Sudan health cooperation. Pakistan offered assistance for training Sudanese medical personnel, facilitating exchanges of experts, and promoting knowledge and experience sharing across multiple areas of healthcare.
The Minister highlighted that matters related to pharmaceuticals, medical devices and regulatory oversight fall under the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and noted Pakistan’s ongoing progress towards achieving WHO Regulatory Maturity Level 3. Pakistan signalled readiness to work with Sudan on regulatory strengthening and the supply of compliant medical products and technologies.
Pakistan also indicated support for promoting medical tourism and said visa facilitation matters would be pursued through consultations with Pakistani diplomatic missions. To ensure timely and effective follow-up, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asked to expedite finalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding and to coordinate implementation of agreed activities.
Both sides welcomed the constructive nature of the talks and expressed confidence that enhanced coordination will deliver concrete outcomes. The Federal Minister assured continued Pakistani support for emergency response, recovery, capacity building and the development of long-term partnerships to help rebuild and strengthen Sudan’s health sector under the Pakistan Sudan health collaboration.
