**Pakistan Government and Sugar Mills Association Agree on Measures to Stabilize Sugar Prices**
The Government of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), has reached a significant agreement to implement government-notified sugar prices and ensure stable supplies across the country. The decision aims to provide market relief and protect consumers from price volatility.
A high-level meeting was convened by Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, bringing together senior officials from both the Ministry and the PSMA. The key agenda was the enforcement of the ex-mill sugar price and immediate steps to guarantee the uninterrupted availability of sugar nationwide.
During the discussions, the PSMA expressed support for the government’s measures and committed to supplying sugar at the newly set ex-mill price of Rs. 165 per kilogram. Both parties mutually agreed that this price reduction would start to take effect in retail markets within the next two to three days.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized the government’s commitment to alleviating public financial burdens, stating that all necessary steps are being pursued to make sugar available at affordable rates. He warned that strict action would be taken against hoarding and profiteering, with robust enforcement of retail price limits.
To further strengthen market stability, the Minister announced that an effective monitoring mechanism has been developed to prevent artificial price hikes and maintain a steady supply. He reiterated that the public’s interest is the government’s primary concern and assured that ongoing coordination with the sugar industry would continue to uphold price stability.
The collaborative efforts between the government and PSMA mark a proactive step toward protecting consumers and sustaining fair market practices in Pakistan’s sugar sector.
