The Pakistan–Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) met with the Thai Ambassador to Pakistan at Parliament House in Islamabad to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, boost trade, and expand cooperation in multiple sectors. The meeting, which brought together parliamentarians and business representatives from both countries, highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in enhancing ties between Pakistan and Thailand.
Chaired by Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani, Deputy Convener of the PFG, the session included prominent members of Pakistan’s parliament and the CEO of Dream Sports Group. In his remarks, Nawabzada Raisani emphasized the activation of the friendship group as a valuable step towards fostering closer engagement between the two nations. He pointed out the historic Gandhara heritage as a symbol of the deep-rooted friendship and stressed opportunities for cooperation in areas such as trade, education, tourism, information technology, and skills development.
The deputy convener reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening parliamentary engagement and called for regular high-level exchanges. He also proposed establishing a similar parliamentary friendship group within the Thai Parliament to further institutionalize collaboration and encourage closer people-to-people connections.
The Thai Ambassador praised Pakistan’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations and shared Thailand’s ambition to double trade volumes and enhance business, tourism, and cultural links. He highlighted the urgency of finalizing a Free Trade Agreement to facilitate greater commercial exchange. The ambassador pointed to fisheries, sports goods, and auto parts as established sectors of cooperation, while noting new opportunities in services and the halal food industry, given Thailand’s large Muslim community.
Discussions also addressed practical steps to bring the countries closer, such as increasing direct flights, simplifying visa procedures, and fostering a more business-friendly atmosphere. Members of the friendship group expressed collective resolve to use parliamentary diplomacy as a means to develop enduring ties and practical cooperation.
The session concluded with a shared belief that sustained parliamentary interaction will be instrumental in deepening connections and building a long-standing partnership between Pakistan and Thailand.
