Pakistan and Tunisia Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation

Pakistan and Tunisia have agreed to deepen parliamentary collaboration as Pakistan’s Special Envoy for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Ambassador Misbah Khar, met with the Tunisian Ambassador in Islamabad to discuss Tunisia’s involvement in the new global parliamentary forum. The meeting focused on the ISC’s goals of promoting dialogue and cooperation on peace, development, stability and security, and affirmed Tunisia’s support for Pakistan’s leadership role in the initiative.

During the meeting, Ambassador Khar outlined the vision and objectives of the ISC, explaining that the forum is intended to bring together Speakers of Parliaments and international leaders to foster inclusive parliamentary diplomacy and collective action on global challenges. She emphasized the ISC’s role as a platform for constructive engagement on matters of peace, development, stability and security.

Ambassador Khar highlighted Pakistan’s central role in establishing the ISC and noted that the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has been unanimously elected as the conference’s first President, reflecting international confidence in Pakistan’s leadership to advance parliamentary cooperation worldwide.

Khar extended a formal invitation to Tunisia’s parliamentary leadership to attend the inaugural session of the ISC, to be hosted in Islamabad. The Tunisian Ambassador welcomed the initiative, praised the establishment of the ISC as a timely step to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, and reiterated the historic and friendly ties between the two countries while assuring Tunisia’s support for Pakistan’s leadership in the multilateral forum.

Both sides expressed commitment to close coordination to ensure the success of the ISC in promoting global dialogue, peace and stability. The meeting was also attended by Tariq bin Waheed, Senior Director General (Protocol) of the Senate of Pakistan.
