The Pakistan Turkmenistan parliamentary friendship group met today at Parliament House in Islamabad where lawmakers and officials held detailed briefings on the bilateral relationship across political, economic and cultural fronts. The session, convened by Sanjay Perwani, MNA, featured presentations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce updating members on ongoing regional connectivity projects and multilateral engagements.
Members including Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Fateh Ullah Khan, Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan, Usman Ali, Saba Talpur and Naima Kanwal highlighted Pakistan’s shared interests with Turkmenistan in energy security, trade and transit cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Discussion stressed how enhanced parliamentary engagement can support practical steps to boost trade, facilitate transit routes and deepen people to people ties between the two countries.
The convener recalled Pakistan’s early recognition of Turkmenistan’s independence and the steady record of bilateral engagement since, noting the need to strengthen high level exchanges and advance parliamentary linkages. He directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s mission in Ashgabat to formally request the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to establish a counterpart parliamentary friendship group to mirror the initiative in Islamabad.
Officials provided updates on connectivity initiatives and multilateral cooperation that are central to the Pakistan Turkmenistan agenda, and members emphasised that parliamentary platforms can play an enabling role in facilitating business, education and cultural linkages. The meeting set the stage for follow-up diplomatic outreach and practical steps to translate parliamentary dialogue into concrete cooperation on energy, transit and trade.
