Pakistan and Ukraine have agreed to strengthen their partnership by expanding cooperation in culture, arts, and heritage. The move aims to foster greater people-to-people connections and highlight both countries’ rich cultural traditions through a variety of exchange initiatives.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, welcomed the Ukrainian proposals during a meeting with Ms. Oksana Patriaeva, First Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine. The discussions focused on introducing Ukrainian heritage, literature, and the arts to the Pakistani public. One key proposal was the establishment of a Ukrainian Book Corner at the National Library of Pakistan to promote awareness about Ukraine’s literature, culture, and history.
Ms. Patriaeva emphasized the warmth of the Pakistani people and expressed Ukraine’s desire to deepen cultural ties through initiatives such as book corners, cultural programs, art exhibitions, and film screenings. She highlighted the longstanding support her country has received from Pakistan and outlined Ukraine’s readiness to take part in mutual exchange programs.
Minister Khichi expressed full support for the initiative, announcing the appointment of a dedicated coordinator to oversee these collaborative efforts. He underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in enhancing Pakistan’s image abroad and strengthening international relations. Further concrete suggestions included organizing joint cultural shows, hosting exhibitions, and expanding existing agreements on culture, heritage, and literature. Minister Khichi also invited Ukraine to set up a pavilion at the annual Lok Mela cultural festival, allowing Ukrainian cuisine, crafts, and performances to reach Pakistani audiences. Additionally, venues in Karachi and Lahore were offered for Ukrainian exhibitions.
Ms. Patriaeva responded positively, stating that Ukraine is prepared to bring its artists and films to Pakistan. She also shared plans to visit renowned heritage sites in Pakistan, such as Mohenjo-daro and Harappa, as part of the cultural exchange.
The Minister noted that a special committee has been established for reviving Pakistan’s film industry, ensuring that all relevant institutions are available to assist Ukrainian cultural activities in the country.
Both sides concluded the meeting with a commitment to accelerate cultural cooperation and explore new heritage-based initiatives, reaffirming the role of cultural diplomacy in deepening Pakistan–Ukraine relations.
