The Pakistani Consulate General in New York and the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations observed a solemn one-minute silence in remembrance of Youm-e-Istehsal, underscoring Pakistan’s ongoing support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The event highlighted opposition to India’s unilateral measures surrounding the region, especially those enacted in August 2019.
During the gathering, Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai spoke out against India’s decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, condemning reported violations of international law and human rights in the region. He emphasized Pakistan’s continued political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.
The observance at both the Consulate and the UN Mission was presented as a symbolic gesture to draw attention to the ongoing hardships faced by residents of IIOJK. Pakistani officials used the occasion to call for intensified international scrutiny and accountability concerning the human rights situation in the disputed territory. The missions reiterated their commitment to keeping the Kashmir issue prominent in global discussions.
