The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), led by Chairperson Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, held a high-level meeting with representatives from both public and private sector universities to discuss the creation of new Research and Development (R&D) Centers and collaborative clusters. The session centered on enhancing the province’s research capabilities in critical thematic areas, with particular attention given to minerals and renewable energy.
Universities participating in the meeting showcased their existing infrastructure and expertise, emphasizing their preparedness to host Centers of Excellence focused on solar, hydrogen, and biomass energy technologies. These initiatives aim to position Punjab at the forefront of innovation in renewable and sustainable energy.
Other important topics addressed included the study of minerals and rare metals, artificial intelligence and data science, climate change, water security, food and nutrition, public and one health, migration and labor affairs, public policy, and economic development. Education reforms were also on the agenda, covering themes such as teaching excellence frameworks, digital transformation within academia, and the strengthening of academia-policy linkages.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all stakeholders to encourage innovation, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and promote impactful research. The overarching goal is to develop solutions for national and global challenges facing higher education and societal development.
