PMAS-AAUR held a Workshop on Olive Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems

The Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, in collaboration with Olive Culture Scale-Up, organized an International Workshop titled “Olive: Health Utility, Nutrition Value & Sustainable Food Systems” on 4th February 2026. The workshop aimed to highlight the nutritional importance of olive, its health benefits, and role to promote sustainable agricultural systems in Pakistan. The event was attended by a majority of faculty members, researchers, students, farmers, and professionals from the agriculture sector.

Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman graced the event as Chief Guest. He emphasized the vast potential of olive cultivation in Pakistan and stressed the importance of research, awareness, and modern production techniques to enhance farmers’ income and ensure food security.

International agricultural expert Dr. Francesco De Musso delivered key sessions on the health and nutritional value of olives, highlighting olive oil as a cornerstone of a healthy diet worldwide while Dr. Muhammad Nouman, Head of Quality and Sensory Evaluation, presented an informative talk on Quality and Sensory Evaluation of Olive Oil, explaining methods to identify high-quality olive oil.

Another important session on Olive Production & Sustainable Food Systems was delivered by Mr. Muhammad Arabi Awan, who underlined the role of olive cultivation in climate-resilient agriculture and environmental sustainability. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr Muhammad Azam Khan, and a symbolic olive plantation activity. The event marked a significant step toward promoting olive research and sustainable agricultural development in Pakistan.
