World Food Safety Day 2025 Marked at PMAS-Arid Agriculture University

Rawalpindi — The Institute of Food and Nutritional Sciences (IFNS) at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) observed World Food Safety Day 2025 in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). The event focused on strengthening national awareness of the crucial link between food safety, nutrition, and climate change, while inspiring youth-led innovation to ensure safe and sustainable food systems “from farm to fork.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman praised the initiative, calling food safety a cornerstone of Pakistan’s public health, environmental sustainability, and economic progress. He urged students, researchers, and industry professionals to take shared responsibility in improving food quality, emphasizing that empowering youth and fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers is vital to achieving a food-secure Pakistan.

The event featured distinguished national experts, academicians, and youth representatives who shared insights into emerging food safety threats under changing climatic conditions. Discussions highlighted the need for robust farm-to-table safety systems, stronger regulatory frameworks, and capacity building among producers and consumers alike.

Participants also explored how climate change is transforming agricultural risks and food production dynamics, with speakers calling for scientific innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation to safeguard food supply chains.

Youth participants presented creative project proposals focused on sustainable funding, local innovation, and climate-resilient food practices. Organizers noted that such engagements not only raise awareness but also create a foundation for Pakistan’s advancement toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

Vice Chancellor Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman concluded the ceremony by reaffirming PMAS-AAUR’s commitment to playing a leadership role in developing Pakistan’s next generation of food scientists, nutrition experts, and sustainability innovators.
