ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has assured that every possible facilitation will be provided to students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
According to a statement issued on August 3, 2026, Brig Aamer Reza Tippu, Secretary Health, Government of AJK, and Prof Dr Fasal Bashir, Chairman Joint Admission Committee, met Prof Dr Rizwan Taj, President PMDC, Brig Rehan Naqvi (retd), Registrar PMDC, and Dr Imdad Ali Khushuk, Director Admission Affairs PMDC, to discuss issues related to the registration of AJK students for MDCAT.
During the meeting, the AJK health secretary highlighted the difficulties being faced by students in completing their MDCAT registration due to the prolonged internet shutdown in the region. He requested PMDC to facilitate the affected students and ensure that no eligible candidate is deprived of the opportunity to appear in the examination.
The PMDC president informed the delegation that the council had already taken several special measures to facilitate students from AJK. He said the Government of Pakistan remained committed to ensuring that all eligible students from AJK were able to appear in MDCAT.
Prof Dr Rizwan Taj said that, in view of the exceptional circumstances, the registration deadline had been extended twice with the normal registration fee. The deadline was first extended from July 8 to July 13, 2026, and later from July 13 to July 23, 2026, to provide maximum convenience to students from AJK.
The facilitation measures taken by PMDC include extension of the MDCAT registration deadline with the normal registration fee, acceptance of registration applications through WhatsApp, email and physical submission, and direct assistance for students facing registration difficulties.
PMDC has also established a special MDCAT examination centre in Islamabad for students from AJK to facilitate their participation in the test. The council has issued a public notice and designated a focal person to assist AJK students with registration and examination-related matters.
The PMDC president and registrar assured the AJK health secretary and the chairman of the Joint Admission Committee of their full cooperation. During the meeting, they also agreed in principle to establish a PMDC sub-office in AJK to improve access to PMDC services for students and healthcare professionals in the region.
The proposal for the PMDC sub-office in AJK will be placed before the PMDC Governing Body for formal approval.
The AJK health secretary and the chairman of the Joint Admission Committee expressed appreciation to the PMDC president and registrar for their timely initiatives and continued support for students of AJK. They acknowledged PMDC’s commitment to addressing the concerns of AJK students and ensuring that they receive every possible facilitation during the MDCAT registration and examination process.
