Citizen slams officials for ignoring complaint on Prime Minister’s Portal

Rawalpindi: A citizen from Rawalpindi has raised serious concerns over the inefficiency of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (PMDU), after his plea to restore the historic Liaquat Bagh to its original status as a Ladies and Children’s Park was ignored and dismissed with what he described as a careless response.

Zaheer Ahmed Awan had filed his complaint on the PMDU portal, pointing out that the site had been turned into a garbage dumping ground, spreading foul smell and pollution across Arya Mohalla, Liaquat Road, Moti Mahal, nearby schools, colleges, government offices, and mosques. He stressed that this situation was creating health hazards for thousands of residents in surrounding areas.

After waiting for nearly a month, Mr. Awan received a reply from the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), which stated that cleanliness operations were being carried out with limited resources and outdated machinery. The response, however, did not address the specific demand to restore Liaquat Bagh as a park, prompting Mr. Awan to accuse officials of negligence and indifference.

The citizen also expressed deep frustration with the overall performance of the PMDU, alleging that many government officers mark complaints as “relief granted” without properly reading them. “If this is the way complaints are handled, then one can imagine the fate of requests submitted directly to government offices,” he remarked.

He further criticized the RWMC’s helpline 1139 and online complaint system, noting that citizens rarely receive redressal through those channels either.

Mr. Awan urged the Prime Minister to take strict notice of the issue and hold officials accountable. He warned that if the PMDU cannot provide genuine relief to the public, then it is better to shut it down rather than giving false hope to citizens.
