Provincial Cricket League launches in Quetta from Oct 27-31 at Bugti Stadium, giving merit-based opportunities to young cricketers under the PM Youth Programme.

The Prime Minister Youth Programme-Qalandars Provincial Cricket League has begun in Quetta, signalling a focused effort to find and develop young cricketing talent across the country. The opening phase is taking place at Bugti Stadium from October 27 to 31, bringing together players and communities around competitive grassroots cricket.

Five regional teams representing Quetta, Turbat, Khuzdar, Loralai and Dera Murad Jamali will compete in the initial leg. Team selections were made through open merit-based trials held across Balochistan so that talented players from every district had an equal chance to join the tournament and display their skills.

As part of the broader PM Youth Programme, the Provincial Cricket League is designed to provide professional exposure and match experience to emerging athletes. Emphasis on coaching, mentorship and structured competition aims to strengthen the domestic framework and support players as they progress through the ranks.

Following the successful launch in Balochistan, the league will move to Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federal Capital, continuing the nationwide talent hunt. This phased rollout ensures that the Provincial Cricket League reaches promising cricketers in every province and offers consistent pathways to higher levels of the sport.

The long-term purpose of the initiative is to create a steady pipeline into Pakistan’s domestic and national cricket structure. By combining regular tournaments with ongoing training and mentorship, the programme seeks to help young athletes evolve into professionals capable of representing Pakistan internationally.

Beyond player development, organisers say the league aims to foster unity and community engagement through sport. The Provincial Cricket League is positioned as both a development platform and a source of local pride, encouraging the next generation to pursue excellence on and off the field.
