SHARP recently held a specialized training workshop in Lahore to enhance police officials’ understanding of human rights and refugee protection. The event brought together 42 senior officers, including Deputy Superintendents, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Station House Officers, and Investigating Officers, with the objective of equipping them to better protect vulnerable communities within their professional duties.
The workshop, conducted at the Police Training School, was attended by notable figures such as Ms. Munazza Karamat, SP Civil Lines. Sessions were led by Ms. Arooj Un Nissa, Field Manager; Ms. Ghazala Mirza, UNHCR Representative; and Mr. Usman Ghani, Director Legal for CAR Punjab. The trainers delivered in-depth discussions on implementing constitutional provisions and upholding international human rights conventions within law enforcement responsibilities.
Emphasis was placed on the police’s crucial role in ensuring justice, dignity, and equal treatment for all individuals, regardless of their nationality or legal status. The participating officers explored practical approaches to safeguard the rights of refugees and other vulnerable groups, reflecting Pakistan’s obligations to respect human rights.
SHARP reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to building the capacity of law enforcement agencies. Through such initiatives, the organization aims to promote a protection-oriented environment for refugees and others at risk across the country.
