The Government of Sindh is launching a week-long anti-polio vaccination campaign across 25 districts, aiming to immunize nearly 9 million children under the age of five. The initiative highlights the province’s determined effort to eradicate polio, even as it faces significant logistical challenges, including those caused by recent floods.
To ensure the campaign’s reach, special arrangements have been made to cover flood-affected regions and other hard-to-access communities. Over 70,000 frontline health workers will be mobilized, with support from 21,000 security personnel to facilitate smooth and safe operations.
Sindh’s Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho emphasized the importance of vaccinating every child, stating that schools and rural areas will be given particular attention, and that strict monitoring processes will be in place to maximize the campaign’s impact and effectiveness.
International organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Rotary International, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have expressed strong support for Sindh’s efforts and praised its commitment to eradicating polio. These global partners have pledged their continued assistance to help achieve a polio-free future for the province.
Through this intensified immunization drive, officials and international partners are working together to protect children and advance public health across Sindh.
