Embassy of Portugal brings Portuguese cinema to EUFF 2025 with screenings of A Sea of Trash in Islamabad and Snu in Karachi—join Nov 7–23.

The Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad will present Portuguese cinema at the fourth European Film Festival 2025, bringing two celebrated films to Pakistani audiences in Islamabad and Karachi as part of the festival running from 7 to 23 November.

On 7 and 8 November Islamabad viewers will see A Sea of Trash (directed by Tânia Paiva, 2019), an inspiring environmental short that follows the volunteer initiative Sea’s Brigade as they clean 45 kilometres of coastline, highlighting marine pollution and the power of community action.

On 16 November Karachi will host the feature Snu (directed by Patrícia Sequeira, 2019), a historical drama based on the true story of Snu Abecassis and Francisco Sá Carneiro, portraying a couple who risked everything for love and political ideals in post-revolutionary Portugal.

The fourth edition of the European Film Festival, organised by the EU Delegation in Pakistan, celebrates the diversity and storytelling of European cinema across Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. Screenings will be held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad, the Karachi Film School and the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore.

These screenings offer a timely opportunity for local audiences to engage with Portuguese cinema that addresses global themes from environmental stewardship to modern history, and to join festival events that showcase European cultural exchange in Pakistan.
