Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad provide guidance for addressing Pakistan’s social, economic and national challenges, and called for unity in supporting flood victims. Speaking at an Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebration in Multan organized by Anjuman-e-Islamia, he praised the organization’s educational work, paid tribute to the armed forces, and joined Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and other leaders in a public procession and ceremonial events.
Gilani addressed a large gathering at Dault Gate, extending felicitations to the Muslim community on the occasion of 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal. He described the Prophet’s life as a source of faith, guidance and peace, and stressed that Islam’s emphasis on education is essential for Pakistan’s stability, prosperity and future development.
Highlighting the role of civil society, Gilani commended Anjuman-e-Islamia for its contributions to education in South Punjab, particularly in Multan, noting the body’s establishment of merit-based institutions without discrimination. He offered specific praise for the organization’s president, Syed Imran al-Hasan Gilani, for his efforts to promote learning.
Linking the day’s religious significance with national duty, Gilani observed the concurrence of the celebration with the nation’s day of defense, paying tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. He described those sacrifices as evidence of the country’s strength and resolve, and reiterated the need to protect national sovereignty and security.
Turning to the humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing floods, Gilani urged collective responsibility for victim rehabilitation. He appealed to philanthropists, welfare organizations and civil society to stand alongside the government in relief and recovery efforts to assist affected communities.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who joined Gilani on stage, echoed calls for unity and compassion. He said the Prophet’s example teaches love and solidarity, paid homage to the nation’s martyrs, and urged political parties to set aside differences and work together for flood relief and public welfare.
The event featured a large turnout of political, religious and social figures. Gilani performed the traditional turban-tying ceremony for Anjuman-e-Islamia president Syed Imran al-Hasan Gilani. Participants included the sajjada nashin of Dargah Hazrat Musa Pak Shahid, Syed Abu al-Hasan Gilani, National Assembly members Syed Ali Musa Gilani and Syed Ali Qasim Gilani, senior politician Makhdum Javed Hashmi, and PPP South Punjab senior vice president Khawaja Rizwan Alam, among others.
The gathering concluded with a pledge to promote knowledge, unity and peace. Led by Gilani and Governor Kundi, organizers and participants then took out a large procession from Dault Gate to Hussain Agahi Chowk to mark the occasion.
