Provincial consultation chaired by Sr. Chief Environment Ms. Nadia Shafiq gathered inputs to revise the Biodiversity Strategy and prepare Pakistan's 7th CBD report.

A provincial consultation on the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) was convened under the chairmanship of Sr. Chief Environment Ms. Nadia Shafiq to collect vital inputs and datasets needed for the revision of Pakistan’s Biodiversity Strategy and the preparation of the country’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The meeting, facilitated by UNDP Pakistan, brought together provincial stakeholders and technical contributors to ensure that local priorities and evidence feed directly into the updated NBSAP aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Discussions focused on practical data needs, policy alignment and the steps required to translate national biodiversity targets into provincial actions.

UNDP’s current initiatives supporting this process include the Umbrella Programme on the Revision of NBSAPs, the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) Project, and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN). These programmes aim to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity for conservation planning, mobilize biodiversity finance and make the revised Biodiversity Strategy actionable at provincial level.

Participants emphasized the importance of using the consultation outcomes to inform evidence-based policy and resource allocation so provincial conservation measures can be better aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework and national commitments under the CBD.
