On October 7, 2025 the Psychology Drama Society of the Department of Psychology at International Islamic University Islamabad presented the psychodrama ‘Khuwabon Ki Khak Sy Umeed Tak’ as part of the university’s Mental Health Awareness Week, drawing attention to flood mental health among affected communities.
The performance traced the psychological journey of flood survivors through trauma, loss and gradual recovery, portraying how faith, community support and professional psychological care can help rebuild lives. By focusing on individual stories of despair turning to hope, the play aimed to destigmatize seeking help and to underscore the importance of accessible mental health services in flood-affected areas.
Through realistic storytelling and moving performances the cast highlighted often-overlooked consequences of natural disasters on mental wellbeing, including grief, anxiety and long-term stress. The production urged greater empathy and structured support systems, stressing that recovery after floods requires both community solidarity and clinical intervention to address flood mental health comprehensively.
The event was supported by Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, In-Charge Female Campus, and attended by faculty and students from various departments. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Student Advisor (Female Campus), and Dr. Nazia Iqbal, In-Charge Department of Psychology (Female Campus), praised the initiative and commended the Society for using creative arts to foster psychological insight. They expressed hope that the Psychology Drama Society will continue promoting emotional wellbeing and raising awareness through similar educational activities.
