The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has approved the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 and future Wi-Fi generations in the 6 GHz band (5925โ6425 MHz), following parameters earlier set for Wi-Fi 6E. Announced from Islamabad on 26th September 2025, the decision places Pakistan among the early adopters in the Asia-Pacific region and sets a regulatory foundation for next-generation wireless services.
Wi-Fi 7 promises ultra-high data rates, reduced latency and stronger reliability, enabling applications such as 8K streaming, immersive AR/VR experiences and industrial automation. By opening the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi 7, regulators aim to relieve congestion in legacy bands and provide more spectrum capacity for growing consumer and enterprise demand.
The move is expected to lower the cost of broadband delivery and enhance connectivity for households, small and medium enterprises, educational campuses and healthcare facilities. Wider access to Wi-Fi 7 will also support the deployment of smart city services and critical automation initiatives across Pakistan, improving resilience and efficiency in urban and institutional networks.
Approval for Wi-Fi 7 in the 6 GHz band signals a clear intent to accelerate Pakistanโs digital transformation and foster an inclusive digital economy. The regulatory clarity should encourage device manufacturers, network operators and service providers to plan deployments that bring advanced wireless capabilities to consumers and businesses nationwide.
