The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is actively conducting a detailed review of PTCL’s proposed full acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers. The ongoing process, currently in its second phase, aims to assess the potential effects of the merger on market competition and ensure regulatory compliance.

During the latest hearing, PTCL’s senior management appeared before the CCP, providing an in-depth presentation of their business plan, expected operational efficiencies, and financial records. The CCP bench, led by Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu along with members Salman Amin and Abdul Rashid Sheikh, scrutinized the proposal closely.

The commission raised pointed questions about how the acquisition could affect competition within the telecommunications sector. The CCP also requested further information and clarification on several aspects of the transaction, signaling its commitment to conducting a thorough and transparent competition assessment before reaching any conclusions about the merger’s approval.
