Punjab Conference Advances Family Welfare Efforts

Punjab brings religious and community leaders together to advance Family Welfare through family planning dialogue and stronger mother and child health across 12 districts.

The Directorate General Population Welfare, Health & Population Department Punjab convened a Provincial Conference of Social Opinion Influencers at Faletti’s Hotel in Lahore under the ADP scheme Engagement of Social Opinion Influencers to Promote Family Planning, with representatives from Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Vehari, D.G. Khan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan and Khushab taking part to discuss Family Welfare priorities.

The forum aimed to engage religious leaders, Imams, Khateebs and social opinion influencers in constructive dialogue to raise awareness about family welfare and the importance of balanced population growth. Participants included female Social Opinion Influencers and representatives from all religious sects and minority communities, reflecting an inclusive approach to advancing Family Welfare across Punjab.

Khawaja Imran Nazir, Minister for Health & Population, attended as the chief guest and underlined that the Government of Punjab is working closely with religious scholars to safeguard the health and well‑being of mothers and children. Other key attendees were Captain (R) Aurangzeb Haider Khan (Director General, Population Welfare), Dr. Muhammad Shehzad Mujaddadi, Dr. Tariq Pirzada, Ms. Asma Naz Abbasi and Muhammad Afzal Chaudhry, who contributed to the dialogue on community outreach and public trust.

The Director General praised the active role of religious leaders in removing misconceptions and strengthening confidence in family welfare initiatives, while prominent scholars reiterated that family planning aligns with Islamic teachings as a wise and socially responsible practice. Speakers stressed that prioritising mother and child health is central to effective population and development efforts across the province.

Delegates agreed on continuing engagement and dialogue across all spheres of society to build mutual understanding and support for Family Welfare programmes under the ADP scheme, aiming for stronger community-led outreach and improved health outcomes for families in Punjab.
