**Punjab Reviews Progress on Green Credit Program, Plans Youth Engagement for Climate Action**

The Supervisory Committee overseeing the Chief Minister Punjab Green Credit Program (CMPGCP) convened its 8th session to review ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing the province’s climate goals. Chaired by Silwat Saeed, Secretary of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), the meeting highlighted significant progress, future strategies, and innovative approaches for climate awareness and action in Punjab.

Key topics discussed included updates on the involvement of microfinance institutions for the distribution of green credits, with emphasis on increasing climate awareness across the region. The committee also reviewed developments in the establishment of an Emissions Trading System (ETS) in Punjab and explored opportunities related to voluntary carbon credits in compliance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

A notable highlight of the meeting was the proposal to engage youth as “Climate Scouts,” empowering young people to advance climate awareness at the community level. The committee regarded this step as a groundbreaking move towards a more sustainable Punjab. The chair directed the development of a comprehensive plan to ensure effective implementation of this initiative.

Members were further briefed on preparations for major upcoming events, including the first Punjab Youth Climate Festival and the Cyclathon 2025, which are designed to foster environmental consciousness and community participation.

In addition, the chair underscored the urgency of hiring a consultancy firm to accelerate work on carbon market projects, aligning local climate action with the province’s broader ambitions in global carbon markets.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Project Director of the Special Implementation Unit (SPIU) at EP&CCD, Director General of EPA Punjab, Additional Secretary (Technical) EP&CCD, and the Assistant Chief Environment & Climate Change from the P&D Board. Participants reiterated CMPGCP’s commitment to driving Punjab’s climate transition through impact-driven solutions and the integration of global best practices.
