Punjab and PHF Partnership Boosts Hockey Development

The Punjab Sports Board and Pakistan Hockey Federation have joined forces to boost and rejuvenate the national sport of hockey. Senior officials from both organizations recently met to discuss comprehensive strategies for the promotion, improvement, and revival of hockey in Pakistan.

During the meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Khizar Afzal Chaudhary announced the inclusion of hockey players in the endowment fund to provide them with financial security. He also revealed that hockey has now been added to the annual sports calendar, and a talent hunt program is being launched as part of efforts to restore the sport’s prominence. Chaudhary emphasized that hockey is being given significant importance within all programs run by the Punjab Sports Department, with structured hockey training included in summer sports camps for children. He assured that the Punjab Sports Board is committed to working closely with the Pakistan Hockey Federation to develop the national game further.

Highlighting recent achievements, Chaudhary noted that both the Punjab Sports Board’s team and the Under-18 squad performed impressively in the Nation Cup, offering fresh hope for the future of Pakistani hockey.

President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Tariq Bugti, commended the efforts of the Punjab Sports Department, stating that visits have been made to all districts for the development of hockey. He expressed determination to eliminate corruption and group politics from the sport and pledged to collaborate closely with the Punjab Sports Board to restore hockey to its former glory in Pakistan.
