Punjab Hosts World Contraception Day for Contraception Access

Explore how Punjab advanced contraception access at World Contraception Day 2025 as government, UNFPA and NGOs united to expand family planning services.

The Directorate General Population Welfare, Health & Population Department Punjab, led by Director General (R) Aurangzaib Haider Khan, hosted World Contraception Day 2025 in Lahore under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges – Contraceptives for All,” highlighting renewed commitment to wider contraception access across the province.

The gathering brought together TCI–Greenstar Social Marketing, UNFPA, DKT, Jhpiego Pakistan and other partners alongside academia, youth representatives, NGOs, INGOs, political leaders and religious scholars to showcase a collaborative approach to family planning and reproductive health with an emphasis on improving contraception access for underserved communities.

A panel discussion titled “Investing in Contraception Today for a Healthier Tomorrow” featured experts from the Population Welfare Department, Jhpiego, DKT, Evidence for Health (E4H) and UNFPA, and was moderated by Salman ur Rasheed. The session generated practical dialogue on innovative strategies, public–private partnerships and outreach models to strengthen contraception access across Punjab.

Hon. Khawaja Imran Nazir, Minister for Health & Population Punjab, attended as Chief Guest and reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to expanding access to quality family planning services. Ms. Saira Afzal Tarar, the Chief Minister’s Advisor on Population Welfare, underlined the importance of integrating reproductive health into broader public health planning to ensure sustained gains in contraception access.

Participants collectively reiterated a vision for universal access to safe, affordable and informed contraceptive choices as a cornerstone of a healthier Punjab, stressing continued collaboration between government, development partners and community stakeholders to translate commitments into measurable improvements in contraception access and reproductive health outcomes.
