Punjab P&D Moves to Establish Climate Observatory

Secretary P&D Board reviewed the Climate Observatory project to boost climate data, monitoring and analysis for policy and resilience planning in Punjab.

Mr. Rafaqat Ali, Secretary of the Planning and Development Board, chaired a Pre-PDWP meeting to review the proposed project for the establishment of a Climate Observatory in Punjab. The meeting examined the project’s objectives and preparatory requirements ahead of formal PDWP consideration.

The initiative is designed to strengthen climate data collection, monitoring and analysis so provincial authorities can pursue informed policy-making and effective climate resilience planning across Punjab. The Climate Observatory aims to provide a centralized technical platform for reliable environmental data and trend assessment.

Representatives from relevant provincial departments and technical experts took part in deliberations, focusing on project components, clear institutional arrangements and practical implementation strategies. Participants discussed how coordinated governance and technical capacity will be essential for the observatory to deliver actionable climate information.

The review emphasized timely follow-up actions and interdepartmental coordination to move the Climate Observatory proposal forward, with the aim of integrating its outputs into planning processes and resilience measures across the province.
