The Environment Protection & Climate Change Department (EP&CCD) convened a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary Ms. Silwat Saeed to finalize preparations ahead of Punjab’s smog season. Participants discussed critical measures aimed at reducing smog through proactive action against major pollution sources.

The meeting was attended by Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Project Director of the Strategic Planning & Implementation Unit (SP&IU) Mr. Tariq Hussain Bhatti, and Additional Secretary (Technical) Ms. Shumaila Manzoor. Key discussions revolved around strategic interventions designed to curb vehicular emissions, reduce crop residue burning (stubble burning), manage industrial pollution, and control fugitive dust.

Recognizing the urgent need for preemptive measures, officials pledged a coordinated early response to address pollution sources before smog builds up. They emphasized the necessity of robust enforcement measures, coupled with widespread public awareness campaigns, to ensure effective implementation.

Secretary Saeed reaffirmed the department’s commitment to a proactive and unified approach, ensuring all stakeholders contribute effectively towards realizing a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents of Punjab.
