The Punjab Wildlife Census Project was officially launched today, marking a significant step towards safeguarding the province’s biodiversity. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Director General of Wildlife & Parks, who emphasized the project’s importance in understanding and preserving wildlife across Punjab.
The initiative is designed to conduct comprehensive assessments of wildlife species and their habitats throughout five distinct zones, with special attention given to both urban and peri-urban areas. This focus aims to tackle pressing issues such as habitat loss and the ongoing decline in native species populations.
Systematic surveys under the project will generate crucial data, forming the backbone of informed conservation decisions. The insights gathered are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping future wildlife conservation strategies and guiding policy development in Punjab, ultimately supporting sustainable management of the region’s natural resources.
