The Council on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) convened its 78th Medical Assessment Board meeting at NIRM Hospital in Islamabad, highlighting ongoing government efforts to support individuals with disabilities. Federal Secretary for Human Rights, Mr. Abdul Khaliq Shaikh, underscored several key initiatives, including the issuance of disability certificates, provision of special Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), and the introduction of a duty-free car import scheme for eligible persons.
During the meeting, Secretary Shaikh acknowledged the significant contributions of various organizations working for the welfare and rights of PWDs. He commended the Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Bait-ul-Mal, and Social Welfare Centres for their collaborative efforts in providing essential services to the disabled community.
As part of the proceedings, disability certificates were distributed to eligible individuals, ensuring their access to social benefits and inclusive opportunities. A special shield of appreciation was presented to Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Asif Shamim, in recognition of his dedicated services to the sector.
The Secretary also toured the facilities, visiting both the Medical Assessment Board doctors and the NIRM artificial limbs workshop, where he observed firsthand the support and rehabilitation services available to PWDs. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to promoting equality and improving the quality of life for persons living with disabilities.
