Islamabad, Dr Humaira Tariq, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s women’s wing, told students at the Minar-e-Pakistan gathering that Quran education must be the foremost priority for female students. Speaking at the “Badal Do Nizam” event organized by Jamaat-e-Islami, she addressed students of Jamiat al-Muhsinat Pakistan while Deputy Secretary Thamina Saeed, Iffat Sajad and Ayesha Syed were also present.
Dr Humaira Tariq urged students to devote a large portion of their time to formal education as well as deep study of the Quran, the seerah of the Prophet and the history of Islamic movements. She warned that without understanding and love for the Quran it is difficult to be a genuine part of any Islamic movement, and emphasised that Quran education provides the foundation for informed commitment.
On the subject of character building she said two qualities are essential for young women: knowledge and haya or modesty. When modesty is preserved, respect for a woman follows throughout society, she added, urging students to strengthen their personalities and to adorn themselves with knowledge so they can play a constructive role in social and systemic change.
Dr Humaira Tariq stressed that mere claims are insufficient and must be backed by reason, learning and a strong character. Citing the Prophet’s teachings, she expressed confidence that the future belongs to Islam, that Jamaat-e-Islami will eventually prevail, and that an Islamic force will emerge in which women will practically receive the honour and rights granted by Islam. Throughout her address she reiterated the importance of Quran education as central to that vision.
