**Rawalpindi District Price Control Committee Takes Key Steps to Address Sugar Crisis and Stabilize Commodity Prices**
The Rawalpindi District Price Control Committee has announced a series of decisive measures to address the ongoing sugar crisis and provide relief to consumers. In a recent meeting, chaired by Acting Chairman Khawaja Shehzad and Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr. Hassan Tariq, the committee implemented strict oversight of sugar wholesalers to ensure sales are made at official government rates.
During the session, the committee also set new prices for lentils, rice, and other essential items, with the aim of alleviating financial pressures on the public. The announcement included a renewed commitment to monitor market dynamics and to continually update pricing frameworks for staple goods.
The meeting welcomed new civil society members, acknowledging their inclusion as an important step for community representation. Member Abid Abbasi presented several proposals designed to enhance committee effectiveness and advocate for consumer interests.
Committee members emphasized the importance of ensuring the availability of high-quality goods at all DC counters and recommended that monthly meetings be instituted to maintain oversight and transparency. In an effort to facilitate the supply of sugar to retail grocery stores, a sub-committee was established to oversee distribution processes.
Participants unanimously expressed strong support for the district’s inflation control policies, underlining a shared resolve to protect citizens from illicit price hikes and to maintain affordability across the market.
