Rawalpindi water tanks built with former MPA funds lie unused for three years as WASA delays activation; locals demand immediate action and accountability.

On December 7, 2025 residents of Union Council 43 Dhok Khabba reported that newly constructed overhead and underground water tanks remain closed and nonfunctional despite being completed in 2022 with development funds from former MPA Chaudhry Adnan. The stalled project has left pumps, valves and piping to corrode, exacerbating local water supply concerns.

Zaheer Ahmad Awan, chairman of the Citizen Action Committee, inspected the tanks at the Sharjah Ground cemetery and spoke with community members who said they had repeatedly drawn attention to the problem but received no response from WASA officials. According to residents, the machinery and welds are rusting and the installation has suffered damage during the three years it has been idle.

Locals say the overhead and underground tanks were built after persistent demand from the neighbourhood, yet despite being physically complete for years, WASA has not activated them. The community accuses WASA of criminal negligence and says new projects are pursued while finished facilities remain unused, denying households uninterrupted water supply.

The Citizen Action Committee warned that if WASA does not put the installations into service promptly, residents will launch a protest campaign. They have called on the Chief Minister of Punjab to order a formal inquiry and hold the responsible WASA officials accountable so that the Rawalpindi water tanks can be commissioned and the area can receive regular water supply.
