A delegation from the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has conducted a comprehensive visit to several flood-affected low-lying areas and commercial markets in Rawalpindi, following recent heavy rains and urban flooding. The initiative, led by RCCI President Usman Shaukat, aimed to assess the extent of the damage and to coordinate a response with local authorities and business representatives.
The delegation, which included Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Executive Member Naveed Kanwal, former Vice President Faisal Shahzad, and members of various market associations, toured key commercial hubs such as Gawalmandi, Raja Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Bohar Bazaar, Mochi Bazaar, and Kalan Bazaar. During the visit, local market office-bearers provided firsthand accounts of the losses and operational disruptions suffered as a result of the flooding.
President Shaukat, after receiving briefings on the situation, directed relevant municipal authorities to intensify the monitoring and cleaning of water drains, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season, to help mitigate future damage. He emphasized the importance of coordinated preventative measures and called on both traders and residents to adopt precautionary steps to protect life and property amidst continued rainfall.
The RCCI’s initiative highlights the ongoing challenges posed by seasonal rains in Rawalpindi and underscores the need for proactive collaboration between civic authorities, business communities, and local stakeholders to safeguard economic and community interests.
