The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has launched a comprehensive crackdown to remove illegal encroachments along the banks of Nullah Lai, aiming to restore order and preserve the environment in Rawalpindi’s development zones. The operation targets unauthorized constructions, dumping of solid waste, and unapproved commercial activities, underscoring the city’s commitment to clean and sustainable urban living.
According to an RDA spokesperson, the anti-encroachment initiative was launched on the instructions of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, and Director General RDA, Kinza Murtaza. The RDA Enforcement Squad conducted targeted operations in several critical areas, including Katarian Bridge, Dhoke Naju, Sheikh Rashid Bridge, and Gawalmangdi Bridge, where strict action was taken against violators.
Supervised by Director Land RDA, Malik Ghazanfar Ali Awan, the operation was carried out in close coordination with the Assistant Commissioner City Rawalpindi, the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi, and other concerned officials. Authorities ensured that enforcement efforts were thorough and covered multiple locations along the waterway.
Director General RDA, Kinza Murtaza, stressed that no individual or business would be permitted to engage in illegal construction or garbage dumping along Nullah Lai’s banks. She explained that this robust action is being taken in accordance with the clear directives of Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal developments, encroachments, and unauthorized commercial activity in the region.
The RDA has announced that First Information Reports (FIRs) will be registered against anyone found violating the regulations, and that enforcement will take place without any discrimination. The authority reaffirmed its strong commitment to upholding law and order in Rawalpindi’s development zones while ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all residents.
