A decision has been taken to establish a new RDA hospital on Jhanda Chichi Road, announced during a special meeting chaired by Director General RDA Kenza Murtaza. The new RDA hospital is intended to provide modern, high-quality medical services to Rawalpindi residents and ease the burden on existing health centres.
According to officials, the RDA hospital will reduce pressure on current facilities and ensure citizens receive timely care. The authority said the facility will be part of a wider plan to improve access to health services across the city.
As part of the broader urban planning strategy, large wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, transport terminals, educational institutions and industrial units will be shifted to designated zones along the Ring Road corridor. This relocation aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower environmental pollution and relieve strain on densely populated neighbourhoods while promoting balanced urban growth and more efficient land use.
The Director General instructed the Engineering Directorate, Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering Directorate, State Management Directorate and Land Development Directorate to identify and allot suitable sites along the Ring Road corridor for these facilities. All transport terminals will be moved to initial and terminal points on the Ring Road that connect with GT Road and the Motorway to improve inter-district and intra-city traffic flows.
Officials also directed that major educational institutions be relocated to purpose-built campuses offering improved infrastructure and learning environments. Dedicated health zones will be established to cluster major hospitals, medical stores, diagnostic centres and medical laboratories so that access to medical services in Rawalpindi is strengthened and streamlined around the new RDA hospital.
Present at the meeting were Director Engineering Mohammad Anwar Baran, Director Admin Iftikhar Ali, Director Land Ghazanfar Ali Awan, Director State Management Ms Abgineh, Director Finance Dawood Khalid, Director MPNTE Atif Mahmood Chaudhry and other RDA officials. Authorities said implementation steps will follow after site identification and allotment along the Ring Road corridor.
