**RDA Announces Urgent Measures for Water Conservation and Environmental Protection in Rawalpindi**

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a series of urgent steps aimed at addressing water scarcity and enhancing environmental protection throughout the region. In a high-level meeting led by Director General Kinza Murtaza, RDA outlined a comprehensive action plan focusing on water conservation, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and improved sewage treatment systems.

During the meeting, the DG emphasized the need for immediate and robust water conservation efforts, particularly within clusters of Private Housing Schemes (PHS). Facing growing pressure on local water resources due to rapid urbanization and unregulated consumption, developers have been instructed to adopt sustainable measures. These include integrating rainwater harvesting, introducing wastewater recycling, and installing water-efficient systems across all residential developments.

A major focus was also placed on the enforcement of Right of Way (ROW) regulations for rivers. These rules aim to preserve riverbanks, prevent illegal encroachments, and maintain the natural flow of watercourses. The RDA made it clear that balancing urban expansion with environmental sustainability remains a central priority.

In addition, the authority issued strict orders to immediately stop the pollution of local water bodies by private housing developers. All housing schemes are required to install and regularly maintain sewage treatment systems, ensuring full compliance with existing environmental standards. DG Kinza Murtaza warned that legal action would be taken against any schemes found in violation, reaffirming the RDA’s commitment to safeguarding the environment and supporting sustainable urban growth.

“This is not just about compliance; it’s about securing our future. Water is a critical resource, and we must act now to protect it for generations to come,” DG Murtaza stated.

The meeting concluded with a strong consensus on the need for collaboration between public authorities, developers, and residents to conserve natural resources and ensure responsible urban development in Rawalpindi. Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Army Information Cell, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, and Chaklala Cantonment Board, participated in the discussions, underscoring the importance of joint action for the region’s environmental sustainability.
