Police Workshop Strengthens Refugee Protection in Peshawar

**SHARP ALAC Hosts Sensitization Workshop for Peshawar Police on Afghan Refugee Protection**

The Society for Human Rights and Prisoners’ Aid (SHARP) ALAC team in Peshawar held a sensitization workshop at the Police Training School (PTS) Shakas, where 29 police officers participated in a session aimed at enhancing understanding of refugee protection and legal aid services. The event highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration and the vital role law enforcement plays in supporting vulnerable communities, particularly Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

The workshop was led by Mr. Manzoor Khan (Manager Legal), Mr. Asad Khan Afridi (Team Leader), and Ms. Hina Mukhtiyar (Lawyer), who provided an overview of the mandate and responsibilities of the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees (CAR) in Pakistan. The session emphasized CAR’s central role in refugee protection, coordination among stakeholders, and the mechanisms in place for service delivery to refugees.

In addition, the SHARP ALAC team introduced the organization’s legal aid and protection services, underscoring SHARP’s ongoing commitment to upholding human rights, promoting legal empowerment, and ensuring access to justice for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The session was attended by Mr. Hukam Khan, Superintendent of Police (Training) for KP Police, as Chief Guest. In his address, Mr. Khan commended SHARP’s continuous efforts to build the capacity of law enforcement officials and highlighted the critical responsibility police officers hold in ensuring inclusive protection for all, with a special focus on the needs of refugees.

This workshop represents SHARP’s ongoing dedication to strengthening protection mechanisms through collaborative efforts, capacity-building initiatives, and rights-based advocacy. The organization aims to further promote awareness and effective responses among law enforcement agencies for the betterment of refugee communities and the broader society.
