Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has announced plans to introduce the world’s most advanced surgical techniques, including robotic surgery, across federal hospitals after receiving a briefing from the head of surgery at PIMS. He described robotic surgery as a significant step toward modernizing medical services and pledged to oversee improvements at PIMS and replicate advances in other federal institutions.

The minister met with Professor S. H. Waqar, head of the surgery department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), who provided a detailed briefing on contemporary surgical methods, recent surgical innovations, and the institute’s work in robotic surgery. Professor Waqar outlined the benefits of robotic systems for precision, reduced recovery times, and improved patient outcomes, and explained ongoing projects at PIMS to expand these capabilities.

Impressed by the briefing, Syed Mustafa Kamal expressed strong interest in adopting robotic surgery more widely within federal healthcare facilities. He characterized robotic surgery as an important move toward providing modern medical amenities and emphasized its potential to elevate the standard of surgical care available to patients.

The minister said he intends to visit PIMS in the near future to personally review progress and assess current projects. He stressed that he expects measurable advancement in the institute’s improvement initiatives and called for accelerated implementation of planned upgrades.

Looking beyond PIMS, the health minister committed to modernizing surgery departments across other federal hospitals to ensure broader access to advanced surgical techniques. He directed officials to develop and implement a roadmap for scaling up these services across the federal health network.
