A Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs official visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry in Islamabad, meeting with FPCCI President H.E. Atif Ikram Sheikh to promote expanded economic ties between Romania and Pakistan. The visit included a presentation to the committee for business development covering Europe and North America, with both sides identifying multiple sectors for deeper cooperation and agreeing that current trade falls short of its potential.
During the meeting at the FPCCI Presidential Secretariat, the Romanian delegation outlined Romania’s economic strengths and the business opportunities it offers to Pakistani investors. Discussions were described as constructive and forward-looking, focused on practical steps to strengthen bilateral trade and investment links.
Both sides identified complementary areas for growth, including automotive, agriculture, information technology, textiles, and healthcare. Officials emphasized the importance of moving beyond a simple buyer–seller relationship toward joint ventures and co-investments in manufacturing, technology, energy, and food processing. Such partnerships, they said, would create more sustainable, long-term economic ties.
Romania was presented as a strategic gateway for Pakistani companies seeking access to the European Union market, offering competitive operating costs, a skilled workforce, and a stable, investment-friendly environment. Pakistani investors were encouraged to consider Romania as a base for market entry and regional expansion across EU markets.
FPCCI President H.E. Atif Ikram Sheikh reaffirmed Romania’s status as one of Pakistan’s most reliable trading partners in Europe and offered recommendations to elevate bilateral trade. Both sides agreed that current trade volumes are below potential and that there is considerable scope for expansion through targeted cooperation and policy support.
Participants highlighted promising avenues in energy, information technology, and agriculture among other sectors, and underscored a shared readiness to pursue closer collaboration. The Romanian delegation expressed its commitment to work with Pakistan’s business community to unlock these opportunities and help build a stronger economic partnership.
The account of the visit and discussions was provided by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Oana Țoiu at the Romanian diplomatic mission in Islamabad.
