**KP Information Commission Highlights Positive Impact of RTI on Media and Transparency**

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) has emphasized the significant role of the Right to Information (RTI) Act in strengthening transparency and credibility within the media landscape. According to the (caretaker) Chief Information Commissioner, RTI provides journalists with access to reliable data and official records held by public entities, thus improving the quality of investigative journalism and increasing public institutions’ accountability.

Speaking during a session organized by the civil society organization Individualland in Peshawar, the Chief Information Commissioner underlined how the RTI Act enables journalists to base their reporting on verified facts and authentic information. This, he said, not only boosts the credibility of media professionals but also puts pressure on institutions to operate with greater transparency and merit.

Commissioner (Legal) Arshad Ahmad and KPIC Deputy Director Communication Syed Saadat Jehan were also present at the event. Responding to queries from participants, Arshad Ahmad noted that the RTI law has been instrumental in exposing corruption within public affairs. He reiterated KPIC’s commitment to implementing the Act, particularly Section 5, which requires public entities to proactively publish key information on their official websites to maximize public access.

The session concluded with KPIC officials reiterating their ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and public access to information, which are seen as essential pillars for accountable governance and a robust media environment.
