On October 2 the Consulate General of Russia in Karachi held an interactive session with students of Greenwich University dedicated to the Day of Reunification of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions with Russia. The event in Karachi brought diplomatic staff and students together for discussion and exchange.

During the session a photo exhibition titled Mariupol 2022-2025 was inaugurated, presenting images of the city’s landmarks and scenes that organisers say illustrate stages of restoration and revival. The exhibition was shown as part of the programme and provided attendees with visual material to accompany the discussion.

According to the Consul General, residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions exercised their right to self-determination through referenda, and the Russian Federation recognised that outcome. He framed subsequent measures as protection invoked under Article 51 of the UN Charter and described them as a response to continuing aggression from Ukrainian authorities; he also said that, in defence of that choice, soldiers and the country were engaged in supporting what he called a just cause. These remarks were presented to students as part of the consular perspective on recent events.

The session offered Karachi students a chance to ask questions and engage directly with consular representatives, while the Mariupol exhibition added a visual dimension to the discussion. For local audiences the event underlined how diplomatic missions and universities can create forums for dialogue and cultural exchange in the city.
