On November 12, on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference in Islamabad, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Alexander Babakov held talks with Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani.
The meeting highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in complementing traditional state channels to address global conflicts, with both sides underlining the importance of sustained Russia Pakistan parliamentary cooperation.
The Russian delegation expressed gratitude to the Pakistani leadership and to Mr. Gillani for the invitation and warm welcome, and reiterated its readiness to pursue further cooperation across legislative platforms.
Delegation members strongly condemned the November 11 terrorist attack at the judicial complex in Islamabad and emphasized the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, a point they said should remain central to bilateral and multilateral parliamentary dialogue.
Mr. Gillani recalled his visit to Russia in May and his discussions with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, while Mr. Kosachev also met ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal to discuss prospects for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation within the ISC and related formats that can support practical ties between legislatures.
