In response to several reports in Pakistani media, Russia’s ambassador to Pakistan, Alib P. Khuriev, clarified Moscow’s stance regarding the Pakistan Saudi defense agreement. His remarks came while answering a journalist’s question about Russia’s view on the bilateral defence understanding between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Khuriev said the Russian side respects the sovereign right of two independent states to sign international agreements and to develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest. He emphasized that such respect for sovereignty is a basic principle guiding Russia’s interactions with other countries.
The statement aims to address public queries generated by recent publications and to reaffirm that Russia’s position is grounded in diplomatic norms. Observers in Pakistan noted the comment as a measured response that underscores Moscow’s approach to international agreements and bilateral ties, particularly concerning matters of defence and strategic cooperation.
