The Department of Fine Arts at Rawalpindi Women University joined hands with the Department of Computer Arts at Fatima Jinnah Women University and the Emergency Operation Center Punjab to stage a poster competition emphasising the goal of polio eradication and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 on good health and well-being. The event aimed to engage youth in promoting public health and raising awareness about the importance of vaccination.
The gathering was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Rooh-ul-Ameen, Chairperson of English and Fine Arts at RWU, and featured Dr. Ihsan Ghani, Chief Executive Officer of the District Health Authority Rawalpindi, as guest of honor. Addressing attendees, Dr. Ihsan underscored that polio vaccines are completely safe and reiterated plans to vaccinate 650,000 children this year as part of the national campaign for polio eradication.
Twenty-seven entries were shortlisted for final consideration. First place was awarded to Fatima Naveed of FJWU, second to Javeria Aqleem of RWU, and third to Iman Asif of RWU. Runners-up included Shayan Iqbal (RWU) and Ajwa Nadeem (FJWU). Prizes and certificates were presented by Dr. Ihsan Ghani and Prof. Dr. Rooh-ul-Ameen during the closing of the ceremony.
The event also welcomed representatives from partner organisations, including Ms. Anum Esa from the National Emergency Operation Centre and Mr. Nosherwan Khan from the Rotary Club. Organisers said the contest not only celebrated artistic talent but reinforced the critical role young people play in supporting polio eradication and strengthening community health initiatives across Rawalpindi and beyond.
