The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the moon marking the start of the Islamic month of Safar was not sighted. As a result, the current Islamic calendar month of Muharram will complete 30 days, and the first day of Safar will be observed on Sunday, 27th July.
Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, officially declared the moon had not been sighted, following a meeting to view the crescent. The Ministry of Religious Affairs subsequently issued a formal notification confirming the committee’s decision.
