Sale of Unhealthy Milk in Rawalpindi Cantonment Sparks Health Concerns

RAWALPINDI: The unchecked sale of unhygienic open milk in various parts of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board is raising health concerns among residents, with the Cantonment Board’s Food Department allegedly failing to take action despite a written complaint.

According to sources, unhealthy milk is being sold at significantly lower prices, ranging from Rs. 180 to Rs. 240 per kilogram, in the Allahabad Market area near Narala Gratu Jalebi during the evening hours from 4 pm to 10 pm.

This low-cost milk is suspected of being substandard and poses serious health risks to the community.

In a formal written complaint filed on October 30, Mohammad Farooq Khalid, a resident of the Cantonment Board area, urged the Cantonment Executive Officer of the Cantonment Board to intervene and stop the sale of the unsafe milk.

Khalid’s complaint highlighted that the Food Department had not conducted any sampling or testing of the milk, despite its suspiciously low price and potential hazards.

Expressing his concerns, Khalid appealed for immediate action to ensure public safety. However, sources revealed that the Food Department has yet to act on the complaint, allowing the sale of the allegedly unhealthy milk to continue in various areas of the Cantonment.

Residents have called on the Cantonment Board to prioritize public health and enforce strict measures to curb the sale of unhygienic milk. The lack of action by the authorities is drawing criticism, with many urging the Food Department to fulfill its responsibilities to protect the health of the community.
